December marked the Dublin Dodgeball club’s most active month since COVID hit. There were a multitude of events both on and off court that engaged the club and gave of plenty of stories!
The month kicked off with the Irish Dodgeball Association’s annual foam ball competition. As this version of the sport is less known amongst the European dodgeball community, the tournament was held with a lottery format, meaning 4 teams were made on the day. Club members John and Katie have previously represented Ireland in this format and served as captains on the day, with Chairman Luke providing refereeing duties. Katie’s leadership proved the difference as her team took the overall competition. A special shout out to our German ambassador Judit, who managed to take the prize in Last Player Standing on her competitive debut!
On the club side of things, our traditional Christmas session took place. Dodgy secret Santa presents were distributed by players in even dodgier Christmas jumpers! The Christmas session is one of the oldest traditions in our club, so we were delighted to welcome new faces to the event, as well as the return of some of our older members.
The Christmas party also took place, with the club descending on Grafton Street. A meal in Captain America’s was followed by a night out in Sinnott’s bar. A fantastic turnout saw our largest party in years, with people even travelling from Portugal and Switzerland to take part!
December was rounded out by a third format of dodgeball, this time of the trampoline variety. We gathered in Jump Zone in Sandyford to bounce around and settle some scores. Despite a vigorous cardiovascular effort, a great time was had by all, partly due to Kenneth providing catering with his homemade cookies. A massive thanks goes to Luke and Sweeney for organising the evening, we’re already looking forward to the next one!
While December was busy, we hope to continue this level of activity in the future. The club continues to grow on and off the court, with more people joining each month. Keep an eye on our social media pages and website for information on future events and open training sessions!
